Irish Premiership: Warrenpoint Town 0-1 Glentoran
- Published
Glentoran moved up to sixth in the Premiership table as Marcus Kane's second-half goal was enough to see off Warrenpoint Town at Stangmore Park.
Warrenpoint goalkeeper Johnny Parr made a couple of fine first-half saves to deny Jim O'Hanlon and Stephen McAlorum.
Glens keeper Elliot Morris saved efforts from Daniel Hughes and Timmy Grant on either side of the break.
However, Kane struck Glentoran's winner on 52 after connecting with a long throw from Johnny Addis.
Daniel Hughes tested Morris with a couple of late efforts but Glentoran held on to take a win that, on the balance of play, they probably deserved.
Parr's first-half heroics kept Warrenpoint in the game as he saved O'Hanlon's powerful point-blank header on 12 minutes and then denied McAlorum's deflected free-kick four minutes later.
As Warrenpoint did finally begin to pose a threat, Glens keeper Morris had to move smartly to deny Daniel Hughes and Timmy Grant on either side of half-time.
But Kane hit Glentoran's winner seven minutes into the second half as he latched on to a long throw from Addis.
Warrenpoint battled gamely to get back into the contest but Daniel Hughes was denied on two occasions by Glens keeper Morris.
