Southport have signed former Wigan Athletic striker Nathan Ellington.

The 32-year-old spent the end of last season with League One Crewe Alexandra and had been training with them this term but failed to win a new deal.

In a career spanning 14 years, the forward has scored 119 goals in 285 English league starts for nine teams including West Brom, Watford and Derby.

He goes straight into the Sandgrounders squad for Thursday night's Conference Premier match at Macclesfield Town.

Ellington's list of former clubs extends to Bristol Rovers, Skoda Xanthi, Preston, Ipswich, Scunthorpe and Crewe.
