Steve Kean: Ex-Blackburn boss to take charge at Brunei DPMM

Former Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean is returning to football as coach of Brunei DPMM in the Singapore S.League.

Kean, 46, stepped down as manager of former Premier League champions Blackburn in September 2012.

The Scot replaces Vjeran Simunic, who led Brunei to the League Cup last season. The club are seventh in a 12-team league which finishes in November.

Brunei DPMM club manager Waslimin Momin said: "He will come in November. We want to change our style of play."

The former Fulham, Real Sociedad and Coventry City assistant manager endured a turbulent time at Blackburn - his only managerial post.

Installed as a replacement for Sam Allardyce shortly after the club were taken over by Indian owners Venkys in 2010, he was in charge when Blackburn were relegated in May 2012, before leaving them four months later.

His new club joined the S.League in 2009, becoming the first team to play their home matches outside of Singapore at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, and they won the League Cup.

The team returned last year after opting out of the league for two seasons and again enjoyed League Cup success.
