Goalkeeper Asmir Begovic says scoring a goal is a 'cool feeling'

Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic said he felt bad for Southampton's Artur Boruc after scoring a bizarre goal past his opposite number.

Begovic scored after 13 seconds in Stoke's 1-1 draw with Southampton.

The goalkeeper's long kick forward got carried in the wind before bouncing over Boruc at the other end of the pitch and finding the net.

"It's a cool feeling but it was a fortunate incident. I feel a bit bad for Boruc," Begovic told BBC Sport.

"It is a long ball that got caught in the wind and it took a wicked bounce. It's not nice to be on the receiving end of those things as a goalkeeper.

"It does not make a goalkeeper look good and after it I did not want to celebrate out of respect for him."

Begovic looked almost as embarrassed as Boruc when his Stoke team-mates raced back to celebrate with him.

Jay Rodriguez equalised for Southampton before half-time to ease Boruc's embarrassment and the Saints keeper was keen to put the incident behind him.

"I don't want to remember it any more," the Poland international said.

"I blame the wind for that. I'm really sorry for my team-mates and our supporters, but what can I say?

"What happens, happens and I need to bounce back. I promise to get those two points back."

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino praised his side for dealing with the tough conditions at a windswept Britannia Stadium to extend their unbeaten run to seven games.

"The weather was tough so it was hard to play our football," he said.

"We showed a lot of character to come back and play the way we did in the conditions."

Stoke are without a league win since August but manager Mark Hughes said he hoped this point would improve his side's confidence.

"We were fortunate to get that start," he said. "Southampton are a good side and as we have seen in other games, they will cause problems for most teams this season.

"It has been difficult to pick up points but this is a good point and we look ahead."
