Ports bounce back with win over Town

Portadown put a turbulent week behind them by beating Warrenpoint 2-0 at Shamrock Park.

The win was a boost for the Ports after their 4-0 hammering at Ballymena in the Legaue Cup and the dramatic transfer-listing of skipper Kevin Braniff.

Darren Murray scored the opener the fifth minute with a neat finish past Town keeper Jonathan Parr.

Gary Twigg smashed in the second goal from a tight angle in the 55th after a mix-up in the visitors' defence.

Jonathan Cowan made a mess of his attempted clearance and Twigg, handed the captain's armband, was able to pick his spot.

It was only Portadown's second win in seven Premiership matches and it lifts them into fifth place, over Mid-Ulster rivals Glenavon on goal difference.
