Preston to appeal Neil Kilkenny red card at Port Vale

Preston are to appeal against the red card shown to midfielder Neil Kilkenny in Tuesday's 2-0 win at Port Vale on the grounds of mistaken identity.

Kilkenny was dismissed following an altercation between North End striker Joe Garner and Vale's Anthony Griffith.

Preston also plan to appeal if the red card is retrospectively awarded to Garner, who went on to score both goals in their victory at Vale Park.

Kilkenny, 27, has played three times during a loan spell from Bristol City.
