Blackburn Rovers: Gary Bowyer says Ipswich defeat 'unacceptable'

Blackburn manager Gary Bowyer called his side's 3-1 Championship defeat by Ipswich "stupid" and "unacceptable".

Rovers have failed to win in their last four away league games, conceding 10 goals, and are five points below a play-off spot in 13th place.

"We need to stop giving goals away. It has to come down to our mentality," Bowyer told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"We need to be tougher and horrible to play against away from home like we have shown when we are at home."

Ipswich went ahead early on through Luke Hyam, before Jordan Rhodes equalised against his old club, but Carlos Edwards scored three minutes after the interval to regain the lead.

"We talked about coming out and starting properly, we did that," added Bowyer.

"Then we didn't track a runner, we have not cleared our lines, the lad falls over it, and still has time to put it in the back of the net. That is not acceptable."

Goalkeeper Jake Kean was culpable for the third goal from Tractor Boys striker Frank Nouble, as he rushed off his line and failed to clear the ball.

Bowyer added: "It is a mistake from him, he is not going to hide from it. He is big and brave enough to accept that.

"On Saturday [against Leeds] he makes us a save that wins us the game and tonight at 2-1, the mistake gives the game away when we are still in it.

"In possession and the chances we are creating, we look good. It is on our travels where we need to cut out the individual mistakes, it is stupid."
