England fear no one - Hodgson

Roy Hodgson insists England do not fear any other side in Friday's World Cup finals draw.

The England manager is adamant the nation should not worry regardless of the outcome at the event in Bahia.

"I will respect and have enormous admiration for everyone," he said. "But the word fear is the wrong one."

Hodgson also believes he picked the right training base on Sao Conrado Beach in Rio de Janeiro despite it initially being his "second choice".

England face the prospect of meeting Brazil, the Netherlands, Italy or Argentina in the group stages of the World Cup starting on June 12, if they are selected in Pot Two for the draw, which begins at 16:00 GMT on Friday.

The draw is live on BBC Two, Radio 5 live and online, where a live text commentary starts at 14:00 GMT.

Hodgson remains relaxed at the prospect of playing one of the biggest teams in world football, claiming the challenge of taking his side on is not one many others will relish either.

"My message to the players and the nation is we're not coming here to fear anyone, we're coming here to respect. We know whoever we play we're capable of winning or losing the match," he said.

"We've played Brazil away, we've played Italy away, we know they are tough games but we know we can go out and do well in them just as we can lose them as well.

"If we face another European team it will be the same for them as us. We might think it'll be tough but they will be thinking 'damn it, we have a tough one too.'

"It's six and two threes. We have to accept there is an element of fate in all draws and we have to be happy and embrace it.

"The alternative is not being here at all or thinking you have an easy draw and then it becomes much tougher than you envisaged. I accept whatever we get, I'm delighted to be here, and I'm looking forward to the draw and the more detailed planning."

Hodgson will complete the finer points of his planning, concerning arrangements, at the team's renovated training base.

"I'm pleasantly surprised, they've done a lot of refurbishment," he said. "I was impressed with the space we've been given which has been blocked off and it is very good for the players and their leisure activities.

"I'm thinking maybe I'm lucky as I now prefer this hotel to the one we had as our first choice in Ipanema. We would not have been able to get to the beach there but we will now be a lot quieter."
