Japan midfielder Keisuke Honda will join Serie A side AC Milan from CSKA Moscow in January.

The 27-year-old, who has won 52 caps, will move on a free transfer after his contract with the Russian club expires at the end of December.

He is expected to make his debut at Sassuolo on 12 January.

"Honda will be a Milan player from 3 January," Milan chief executive Adriano Galliani said. "We have already filed the contract."

Honda joined CSKA in 2010 and helped them win the Russian Premier League last season.

He began his career with Japanese club Grampus Eight before moving to Dutch side VVV Venlo in 2008.

Honda was named player of the tournament when Japan won the 2011 Asian Cup and helped his country reach the last 16 of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
