Emmanuel Ledesma's goal earned Middlesbrough a 1-0 win at The Riverside, causing Burnley to slip from top spot in the Championship.

Ledesma drove in from 25 yards midway through the first half to put Aitor Karanka's side ahead.

Shay Given pulled off a fine save from Danny Ings's header and Junior Stanislas was also denied by the Boro goalkeeper.

Burnley's third away loss of the season allowed Leicester to move above them.

Albert Adomah and Lukas Jutkiewicz both went close in the early stages, before Ledesma drove just over the bar.

But Ledesma, who scored in the 2-0 win at Millwall, opened the scoring when he cut in from the right and beat Clarets goalkeeper Tom Heaton at his near post.

Given blocked an Ings header just before the break, then Ledesma hit a shot wide after a fine run.

Dean Marney headed over from close range from a Keith Treacy cross, before Given denied Stanislas as Boro picked up back to back league victories for the first time in 2013.

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka:

"In my first few games the team played well but results did not go well. We made late mistakes too many times and that affects confidence.

"When you are more confident you are more sure in your decisions. You try more, you succeed more and that grows through the team.

"Now we have beaten the team who are top of the table and that will create more confidence."

Burnley manager Sean Dyche:

"Their bench's reaction told a story. They were up and screaming, they were buzzing. You'd have thought they had won the lottery rather than scored against Burnley but that is a sign of how far we have come.

"In this league it is all about fine margins. In this game the margins were incredibly tight."
