Warrenpoint-Glenavon game abandoned after floodlight failure

The Irish Premiership game between Warrenpoint Town and Glenavon on Friday night was abandoned because of floodlight failure.

Referee Ian McNab made the decision after one of the floodlights went out during half-time.

It was the first game to be played at the redeveloped Milltown, Warrenpoint's home venue.

Town led 1-0 thanks to a Daniel Hughes strike while Glenavon's Gary Hamilton saw his penalty saved by Jonathan Parr.

Hughes scored the first goal at the upgraded Milltown on 21 minutes, the striker outpacing Kris Lindsay and his shot proved too powerful for keeper Andy Coleman.

Glenavon player-manager Hamilton was denied by Parr five minutes before the break after Liam Bagnall handled from Gareth McKeown's long throw-in.

Only one corner of the field was affected by the half-time floodlight failure but it was enough for the game to be abandoned.

A new date for the fixture has yet to be arranged.
