Gillingham 2-2 Walsall

Cody McDonald's injury-time equaliser gave Gillingham a share of the points against Walsall.

McDonald opened the scoring just 21 seconds into the second half with an excellent overhead kick.

Romaine Sawyers levelled the score, capitalising after his initial strike was blocked by defender Leon Legge.

Walsall substitute Julian Gray looked to have won it with a 90th-minute volley but McDonald rescued the Gills with a precise finish from close range.

McDonald almost completed his hat-trick even deeper into injury time, but Saddlers goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell saved well with his feet.

Walsall midfielder Sam Mantom told BBC WM:

"That save from Richard O'Donnell at the end was top notch, to keep us a point, but really it's two points lost rather than a point gained.

"We bounced back well from the Bristol City defeat on Boxing Day,

"We knew that performance wasn't good enough. We weren't at it. We were a lot better here and it's heartbreaking not to come back with all three points.

"But to be four points off the play-offs, at this time of year, we'd have taken that at the start of the season,"
