Colchester United 1-2 Crewe Alexandra

Crewe Alexandra climbed back off the bottom of the table as they came from behind to win at Colchester.

The U's were ahead at half-time thanks to on-loan Everton defender Luke Garbutt's deflected 25-yard free-kick.

Chuks Aneke then equalised for the visitors on 73 minutes with a precise finish after Brad Inman found him free in the penalty area.

And, just three minutes later, Tom Hitchcock headed in an Inman corner to earn victory for the Alex.

Crewe boss Steve Davis told BBC Radio Stoke:

"We made a real slow start. It took us a while to get going but we finally did after they scored.

"The free-kick took a wicked deflection and went into the opposite corner that Ben Garrett was covering. There was nothing we could do about that. It just about summed up our luck of late.

"But we got them in at half-time and had a bit of a rallying cry. I just said to them that we had endured a miserable last four months or so let's go out and try and end the year on a high for everyone.

"I wanted them to go out and put on a performance and to come back for the first time this season is a brilliant start on what we need to do."
