Veteran defender Nicky Shorey has left Bristol City following the conclusion of his short-term contract.

The former Aston Villa, Reading and England left-back's four-month deal has now expired and will not be renewed.

The 32-year-old made 17 appearances for the League One club since joining at the end of August.

"Nicky is keen to find a club closer to his home so it can make family life a bit easier for him," said manager Steve Cotterill. "We wish him well."
