Northampton: Hallam Hope and Antonio German sign on loan

Northampton have completed the double signing of Everton striker Hallam Hope and Gillingham forward Antonio German on a month's loan.

Hope, 19, joined Everton from Manchester City in 2005 and signed a new two-year contract in September.

German, 22, came through the youth system at Queens Park Rangers.

He joined Gillingham permanently in the summer of 2013 and has scored nine goals in 29 career starts, with a further 47 appearances from the bench.

"I hadn't got millions of options but I like a certain type," caretaker manager Andy King told BBC Radio Northampton.

"I wanted two big, strong lads. They're a bit more experienced than David Moyo, but he's still in the equation.

"They said they wanted to play football here and German was almost too enthusiastic.

"[Gillingham and ex-Northampton striker] Adebayo Akinfenwa rang me out of the blue and he was very complimentary about German.

"He says he's the best one he's trained with, he's quick and powerful. I respect Bayo and his opinion - the deal was already done but it was nice to get confirmation off a top striker."

Hope was given a 2 year professional contract at Goodison Park in September 2013.

"He is a favour I pulled in," said King. "I know [Everton boss] Roberto Martinez quite well, and Alan Stubbs. Hope comes from good recommendation from Alan, who thinks he'll score at this level.

"He was in Manchester at 10.15pm and he was going to get his boots from Everton and drive down that night. That was what I was looking for - an attitude."
