Motherwell boss Stuart McCall revels in thumping victory

Motherwell boss Stuart McCall praised his side's ruthlessness in front of goal following the 4-0 thumping of St Johnstone.

The Steelmen made it five wins from as many games to consolidate their hold on second place in the Premiership.

"Today was as good as it could be," he said. "In the second half, we were absolutely outstanding.

"We created chances and played some smashing football. We were clinical again and could've had a few more."

McCall expressed delight at the "slickness of our passing" and the way they opened up St Johnstone's defence.

"I'm really proud of them," he added. "Second place, at this moment in time, doesn't mean anything.

"Our main aim is to be in the top six and keep amassing the points."

Lionel Ainsworth continued his impressive form following his loan move from Rotherham - scoring his fourth goal in as many games - and McCall has been holding talks to extend that deal until the end of the season.

"Hopefully we got things sorted out yesterday and we just need to get it rubber stamped," said McCall.

"He loves it here and we love having him: it's a good match."
