Peterborough United defender Gabby Zakuani has left the club on a free transfer to sign for Greek top-flight side Kalloni FC on a six-month deal.

Zakuani, 27, has played over 200 games for Posh since joining from Fulham in 2008 but has fallen out of boss Darren Ferguson's plans this season.

After rejecting a three-year contract extension last May the DR Congo centre-back was put on the transfer list.

Zakuani last played for Posh in November's 3-2 defeat at Brentford.

He told the club website:, external "I would like to thank Peterborough United for the last five and a half years. It has always been Posh first and everything else second including my health.

"It is a fresh challenge for me to play in the Greek Super League and one I am looking forward to."

Zakuani, whose contract was due to expire at the end of the season, started his career at Leyton Orient and arrived at Posh on loan from the Cottagers in September 2008, before agreeing a long-term deal the following January.

He could make his debut for Kalloni in Saturday's game against Olympiacos.
