Irish Premiership: Coleraine 2-0 Ards

Ten-man Coleraine ended a run of nine Premiership defeats in a row by beating basement club Ards at Ballycastle Road.

Baltimore-based Stephen Dooley, playing the first of two games for the Bannsiders, rifled past Alan Blayney for the opener in the 55th minute.

Four minutes later defender David Ogilby received a straight red card for a foul on forward Willie Faulkner on the edge of the penalty area.

Eoin Bradley scored from the penalty spot after 78 minutes to make it 2-0.

Bradley stepped up to score after being brought down by Andy Hunter.

Both sides had opportunities to break the deadlock in the first half as Oran Kearney's side searched for their first league success since 2 November.

Fit-again Stephen Lowry saw his flick header from a Ruairi Harkin free-kick saved by Alan Blayney early in the game.

Mark McClelland headed wide for the visitors, while new Coleraine signing Eugene Ferry turned away a Neil Dougan shot.

Faulkner saw his shot well dealt with by Ferry, while the ex-Derry City stopper had to be at full stretch to deny James Knowles.

Bradley found Dooley in space for the opening goal and then ensured victory with his spot-kick.

"It is nice to end that well documented losing run," commented a relieved Kearney after the game.

"It was a tough day but we hung in there and got the three points. It wasn't a classic game but it's one I will remember for a long time."

Coleraine now enjoy a seven-point cushion over Niall Currie's side at the foot of the table.
