Gillingham striker Danny Kedwell will play on despite requiring an operation on a hernia.

The 30-year-old, who has scored 10 goals in 27 appearances this season, was due to undergo surgery last week.

"Danny certainly has a hernia problem, but it's not a bad one and I think with rest we can keep him going," Gills boss Peter Taylor told the club website., external

"Rather than lose him for a month, I am thinking about not having the operation and he can then carry on as he is."

Kedwell played the full 90 minutes on Friday as the Kent club beat Wolves 1-0 to move five points clear of the League One relegation zone.

"Now Danny has come in again, trained, is ok and is ready to play," Taylor said.

"Once we get to a figure [points tally] that we think we have progressed enough, then we can get it done."
