FA Trophy: Gosport and Havant & Waterlooville set for cup clash

Gosport Borough boss Alex Pike admits his team are "massive underdogs" in their FA Trophy semi-final clash with rivals Havant & Waterlooville.

The clash between the two Hampshire clubs will guarantee a Conference South side a trip to Wembley.

"For us to go through, I will need all my players over both legs to be on top form and all of their players to not be," Pike told BBC Radio Solent.

"It will need a miracle, we are massive underdogs, that's a fact."

Gosport sit second bottom of the Conference South, with Havant in 14th place in the table.

Borough beat Conference North leaders North Ferriby in the quarter-finals but Pike is not content with just a semi-final place in the tournament for all the top non-league sides.

"Semi-finals mean nothing to me," he said. "It's finals that rank. Who remembers losers?

"Havant are a massive club in this area but if we can stay in the tie after the first leg then our place should be rocking," added Pike.

Havant comfortably despatched of Conference Premier side Aldershot in their quarter-final and boss Lee Bradbury thinks the local rivalry will add extra spice to the tie.

"It's very exciting, I can't remember a game of this stature between teams so close together.

"There's a lot of ex-Havant players over at Gosport so that adds extra bite to the game although I'm sure it will be played in the right manner," insisted Bradbury.

"It should be a very good occasion and either way one part of Hampshire will be very happy and the other will be devastated. We'll try to make sure we're happy."

The two clubs have already met once this season when Havant ran out 3-0 winners.
