Wycombe Wanderers: Fans wait on takeover offer identity

Wycombe Wanderers supporters will have to wait until next week to find out the identity of their proposed new owners.

Members of the the club's current owners, Wycombe Supporters' Trust (WST), met on Tuesday to learn more about an offer from an unnamed company.

But the potential buyer will remain anonymous until the annual general meeting on 26 February, as part of a non-disclosure agreement.

The organisation propose to purchase a 75% controlling stake from WST.

The Trust would retain ownership of the club's home at Adams Park and all memorabilia.

But 75% of the Trust's 538 Legacy members - those who have been season ticket holders for at least four consecutive years - must vote in favour of the sale.

It was revealed that the buy-out offer emerged while the Trust was looking into an Enterprise Investment Scheme to generate investment through a share offer.

The Trust took ownership of Wycombe in June 2012, at a time when the club was losing £1.6m a year.

Those yearly losses have been reduced but dwindling crowd numbers and lower corporate income continue to put pressure on the club's finances.

The potential buyers were described to fans as a UK-based, solid, well-funded organisation who have had involvement with a football club before.

It was also suggested that a fans' favourite would be returning to Adams Park in an advisory role.

While many believe it to be former boss John Gorman, the Scot has told BBC Sport he has not been offered a position, but has been asked to hold an informal conversation with manager Gareth Ainsworth.
