Portadown ease past Glenavon at Shamrock Park

Portadown revived their hopes of finishing third in the Irish Premiership by beating Glenavon in the Mid-Ulster derby at Shamrock Park.

Central defender Emmett Friars headed a fourth-minute opener from Chris Casement's out swinging corner kick.

It was former Linfield player Chris Casement who netted the second with a superb curling shot on 49 minutes.

Casement made it 3-0 late on while defender Ross Redman made his comeback after a long-term knee injury.

Casement's third goal in the 80th minute was a volleyed finish after Gary Twigg had headed the ball down.

Defender Redman had been out of action since August, having sustained a cruciate ligament injury in the second match of the season.

As Crusaders lost to Linfield, Portadown's win means they are just two points off third position in the Premiership which carries Europa League qualification.
