Real Madrid's slim Spanish title hopes were ended by defeat at Celta Vigo.

Beginning the penultimate round of matches four points behind leaders Atletico Madrid, Real were beaten by two goals from mid-table Celta's Brazilian striker Charles.

He pounced twice on defensive errors to round goalkeeper Diego Lopez, the second a backpass by Xabi Alonso.

A run of three games without a win has left Real five points behind Atletico and two behind second-placed Barcelona.

The top two sides now meet at the Nou Camp on the final day, with Atletico needing to avoid defeat to be crowned champions.

Real, who have already won the Copa del Rey, will instead turn their attention to the Champions League final against their city rivals Atletico in Lisbon on 24 May.

By then they are likely to have Cristiano Ronaldo back to full fitness. The Portugual forward missed the trip to Celta with an injury picked up in the 1-1 draw at Real Valladolid.
