England's Group D opponents Costa Rica have confirmed their 23-man World Cup squad, with first-choice forward Alvaro Saborio ruled out with a broken foot.

The Real Salt Lake striker, 32, who scored eight goals during qualifying, was injured in a training session.

Everton defender Bryan Oviedo was already ruled out through injury having broken his leg against Stevenage in the FA Cup in January.

But Arsenal's Joel Campbell and Fulham's Bryan Ruiz are selected.

Costa Rica made a last-minute change to their squad following an injury to Saprissa defender Heiner Mora, with Herediano's Dave Myrie replacing him.

Los Ticos also face Italy and Uruguay in the group phase in Brazil.

Campbell spent last season on loan at Olympiakos, while fellow forward Ruiz ended the campaign on loan at PSV.

Costa Rica face England in the final group match on 24 June.

The Central Americans face Republic of Ireland in a warm-up friendly in the United States on 6 June.

AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado, Saprissa defender Kendall Waston, midfielders Carlos Hernandez (Wellington Phoenix), Ariel Rodriguez (Alajuelense) and Hansell Arauz (Saprissa) and Columbus Crew striker Jairo Arrieta missed the cut.

Defenders: Johnny Acosta (Alajuelense), Giancarlo Gonzalez (Columbus Crew), Michael Umana (Saprissa), Oscar Duarte (Bruges), Waylon Francis (Columbus Crew), Dave Myrie (Herediano), Junior Diaz (Mainz 05), Christian Gamboa (Rosenborg), Roy Miller (New York Red Bulls).

Midfielders: Celso Borges (AIK), Christian Bolanos (Copenhagen), Esteban Granados (Herediano), Michael Barrantes (Aalesund), Yeltsin Tejeda (Saprissa), Diego Calvo (Valerenga), Jose Miguel Cubero (Herediano).

Forwards: Bryan Ruiz (PSV Eindhoven, on loan from Fulham), Joel Campbell (Olympiakos, on loan from Arsenal), Randall Brenes (Cartagines), Marco Urena (FC Kuban Krasnodar).
