World Cup 2014: Roy Hodgson impressed with England training

England manager Roy Hodgson says he would love to "bottle" his side's training performances and release them during the World Cup.

Hodgson's side play their last home friendly before the tournament in Brazil when they meet Peru on Friday.

England begin their World Cup campaign against Italy on 14 June.

"The training sessions have been very impressive and if I could bottle what I'm seeing it and release it on 14 June I'd be very happy," said Hodgson.

He admits that he is not sure of his starting XI for the Italy match because of the standard he has seen from his squad in training.

Hodgson added: "The performance of the players in the last 10 days has been good.

"There are so many of them that are so keen to stake their claim so it won't be an easy choice and that's how I expected it to be.

"There are a number of senior players but there are a number of positions up for grabs and everyone's doing their best to grab them."

Prime Minister David Cameron met Hodgson and his squad on Thursday.

Hodgson has to confirm his final 23-man squad on 2 June, before England play two warm-up matches in Miami - against Ecuador and Honduras - before they start their World Cup campaign in Manaus.

England are in Group D along with Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica.

Hodgson was appointed only weeks before the European Championships, where they were beaten by Italy on penalties in the quarter-finals, two years ago.

Having taken the team through qualifying, he feels happy with his squad going into the tournament.

Hodgson said: "I've had two years, this is the squad I've chosen, it is one I'm very pleased with.

"You certainly won't hear any excuses from Steven [Gerrard] or myself if anything untoward happens, because we believe we are in the right place and are the right people to do it."
