Wolves: Dave Edwards signs new two-year contract at Molineux

Edwards says Wolves should be "looking towards the top six" in the Championship next season

Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards has signed a new two-year contract with the promoted Championship club.

Shropshire-born Edwards, 28, who began his career at boyhood heroes Shrewsbury Town, was signed by Mick McCarthy from Luton Town in January 2008.

His new deal ties him to Molineux to June 2016, which would be expected to make him Wolves' longest-serving outfield player.

"You'd be mad not to want to be part of it with everything happening," he said.

"It's a great time to be involved here whether you're a fan, employee or a player.

"I'm not sure what the expectation is going to be outside the club but inside we know what we want to do.

"You have to be aiming and looking towards the top six. We are going to go into every game trying to win it.

"I have no doubt that within the squad we are going to be up there and fighting to be in and around it."

The 26-times capped Wales international, whose nine goals in 22 starts took his career tally to 40 goals in 339 appearances, added: "Last season has really rekindled my love of the game.

"It's been a privilege to play for this club and last season was one of the most enjoyable."

Defender Richard Stearman, Wolves' third longest-serving outfield player after Kevin Foley and Edwards, is still to agree a new deal.

Wolves boss Kenny Jackett has so far made two signings, left-sided utility man Tommy Rowe from Peterbrough and Netherlands Under-21 winger Rajiv van La Parra from Dutch side Heerenveen.

And they are still reported to be in contention to sign 21-year-old Sheffield United central defender Harry Maguire.
