Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater has signed a new four-year deal with the Premier League newcomers.

The 24-year-old joined the Foxes in January 2012 from Manchester United and scored eight times in Leicester's Championship-winning team last season.

Drinkwater told BBC Radio Leicester: "I know it is a club going forward and I wanted to match that in my ambitions.

"Leicester have made it clear to everyone that they want to stay in the Premier League."

Leicester will be playing in the top flight for the first time in 10 years.

Drinkwater, who spent time on loan at Huddersfield, Cardiff, Watford and Barnsley before joining City, added: "We want to eventually get to the higher half of the table and I want to be a part of that."
