Carlisle United have signed midfielder Gary Dicker and striker Billy Paynter on two-year deals from Crawley Town and Doncaster Rovers respectively.

Dicker, 27, returns to League Two having spent the first half of last season with Rochdale, before stepping up a division to join the Red Devils.

Paynter, 29, has scored 110 times in 447 games, with 51 goals coming from his time at Swindon from 2008 to 2011.

"Gary has experience and great pedigree," said boss Graham Kavanagh.

"He really wanted to come here and we're looking forward to working with him. Billy's another with experience and he'll add some real quality."

Meanwhile, the club have confirmed midfielder James Berrett has left.

The 25-year-old, who scored 27 times in 198 appearances, was out of contract at Brunton Park and failed to agree a new deal.
