Mark Marshall: Port Vale sign Coventry City winger

Marshall had two years out of the game after testing positive for a banned stimulant in 2011

Port Vale have made their third summer signing by bringing in winger Mark Marshall on a one-year deal following his short stay with Coventry City.

Marshall signed for the Sky Blues in February on a contract until June after the completion of a two-year drugs ban.

The 26-year-old Jamaican tested positive for a banned stimulant after a League Two game between Barnet and Dagenham on Boxing Day 2011.

After the ban was imposed in May 2012, he was then released by Barnet.

Marshall made 14 appearances for Coventry over the final three months of last season, eight of them coming off the bench.

He is the third player to depart the Sky Blues in two days following midfielder Franck Moussa's move to Charlton Athletic and the release of defender Blair Adams to join Notts County.

Marshall's arrival at Vale Park follows the club's signing of two defenders in Hibernian's Ryan McGivern and Colin Daniel from Mansfield Town.

Vale have also made a significant alteration to their backroom staff, with coach Rob Page being promoted as assistant manager to boss Micky Adams.

Long-serving Mark Grew, formerly Adams' number two, will now take on a role as goalkeeping coach and scouting co-ordinator, to replace chief scout George Foster, who is now working for Swansea City.
