Experienced Morecambe midfielder Stewart Drummond has signed a new one-year contract and been appointed as the League Two club's head of youth.

Drummond, who played 38 games last term before a fractured toe ended his season in March, had previously been reserve-team manager at the Globe Arena.

"I'm still focusing on playing," the 38-year-old told the club website., external

"But I am also looking forward to overseeing the youth set-up with the idea of bringing more talent through."

Drummond began his career with Morecambe, his first spell at the club lasting more than a decade.

After stints with Chester and Shrewsbury, both lasting two years, he returned to the Shrimps in January 2008.

Meanwhile, chairman Peter McGuigan has announced that he will also take on the role of chief executive.
