Gary Roberts made one goal and scored the other as Chesterfield earned a deserved victory at Port Vale.
The visitors took the lead when Eoin Doyle kneed in the rebound after Roberts' shot had came back off a post.
The hosts levelled when Mark Marshall smashed a drive high inside keeper Tommy Lee's left-hand post.
Roberts curled home a left-foot shot in off the post to restore Chesterfield's lead before the visitors had Ian Evatt sent off late on for two bookings.
Chesterfield boss Paul Cook speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield:
"I thought our game management was terrific, I was really pleased with the players.
"Our squad has been stretched to the limit and I think the players that have come in were absolutely magnificent.
"Eoin Doyle will score goals and he is as honest as they come.
"We had great support today and we all go back to Chesterfield very happy."
