Morgan Schneiderlin is 'happy at Southampton for now'

Morgan Schneiderlin insisted he is "happy" at Southampton but did not commit his future to the club.

The 24-year-old midfielder criticised the club on Twitter during a summer in which he has been linked with moves to Tottenham and Arsenal.

"It was a long summer, now I'm focused on my team," he told BBC Sport after scoring twice in a 3-1 win at West Ham.

Asked if his future was at Saints, he replied: "For now, it is Southampton. I keep playing and doing my best."

Southampton have sold Calum Chambers, Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren and Luke Shaw this summer but insisted that Schneiderlin is not for sale.

The club's stance prompted the France international to write on Twitter: "Six years of an amazing journey #saintsfc destroyed in one hour!"

However, he has started each of the south-coast club's opening three Premier League games.

"I always say that I am happy at Southampton," said Schneiderlin.

"I'm not going to hide the fact that it has been a long summer with a lot of speculation and a lot of thinking on my side to know if I have to make a big step.

"The club showed that they wanted to keep me. I always had respect for the fans and club. I always give my best and I was just thinking about my future.

"Today it is clear and I just have to concentrate on my football now."

Schneiderlin joined Southampton from Strasbourg in 2008 and played a key role in their rise from League One to the top flight.

He also played for France at this summer's World Cup in Brazil.
