Hull City: Steve Bruce delighted with deadline-day business

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has praised the "fantastic business" the club did on transfer deadline day.

Hull took Newcastle winger Hatem Ben Arfa on loan and spent a club-record £10m on Uruguay striker Abel Hernandez.

They also recruited midfielders Mohamed Diame and Gaston Ramirez from West Ham and Southampton respectively.

"I think we've done some fantastic business and it's up to me now to make sure they gel and get up and running again," he told BBC Radio Humberside.

Bruce said the deals showed the club had undergone a "quite remarkable turnaround" from being in the Championship two years ago.

Ben Arfa, who has joined on loan until the end of the season, scored 14 goals in 86 appearances for Newcastle

He added: "Hernandez is going to play up front for Uruguay in their upcoming friendlies and they're ranked sixth in the world.

"Mohamed has got a lot of experience having played in this league for six years and is the Senegal captain.

"Things haven't quite worked out for Ramirez at Southampton so far but he is very skilful and then you have the icing on the cake which is Hatem. He brings that little bit of flair and creativity that every team needs."

The Tigers finished 16th in the Premier League last season and reached the FA Cup final for the first time in their history.

They were knocked out of the Europa League by Lokeren last week, and Bruce felt it was important to bring in more players.

"It seems like large numbers but if you look at how many players have gone out then we tally up with where we were," he said.

"We have to keep trying to move upwards."

Bruce could give debuts to his four new additions against West Ham on Monday, 15 September.
