Irish Premiership: Institute 1-4 Glenavon

Glenavon are the new leaders of the Irish Premiership after an emphatic 4-1 victory away to Institute.

Gary Hamilton's men take over at the top as leaders Ballymena were beaten 3-0 by Ballinamallard and second-placed Cliftonville drew 1-1 at Warrenpoint.

Eoin Bradley's 33rd-minute strike gave the visitors an interval lead.

Defender Gareth McKeown, Bradley and Ciaran Martyn made it 4-0 before home substitute Jordan Armstrong got a consolation goal for Institute.

It was a third league win in a row for the Irish Cup holders who have 14 points from seven matches.

Their three second-half goals came in an eight-minute spell and sealed the Lurgan side's fourth Premiership win of the season.

They survived an early scare when Stephen O'Flynn's left-foot shot was tipped onto the crossbar by Glenavon keeper Alan Blayney.

It was Kevin Braniff who created Bradley's opener, delivering a great cross for the former Coleraine front man to tuck away.

Stephen Curry had a chance to equalise but hooked his shot over the bar.

Glenavon doubled their lead in the 52nd minute when the home defence failed to deal with a Braniff corner and the ball fell for McKeown who thumped it into the net.

Four minutes later Bradley bagged his second after being set up again by former Portadown star Braniff and then Martyn fired in number four.

Armstrong steered in Institute's goal in the 68th minute after a cross from another sub Declan McKeever.
