Warrenpoint Town moved off the bottom of the Premiership table into 10th place by beating Ballinamallard, who now occupy the basement position.

The home side had the better of the first half, with Daniel Hughes and Padraig Smith missing good chances.

Hughes opened the scoring with a 46th-minute penalty after Mallards defender Mark Stafford handled inside the area.

Jonathan Cowan increased Warrenpoint's lead eight minutes later with a header from a corner.

The best chance of the first half fell to Hughes, who latched onto a pass from Jonathan Breen, but his goal-bound effort was cleared for a corner by Stafford.

The visitors had Nigel Beacom stretchered off at the end of the first half with a serious looking ankle injury.

Warrenpoint travel to face Glenavon next Friday night, while Ballinamallard host Coleraine at Ferney Park.
