Justin Edinburgh: Manager hints at longer Newport County stay

Newport County manager Justin Edinburgh says he sees no reason why he will not see out his current contract.

Former Spurs defender Edinburgh celebrates his third anniversary in charge of the League Two side at Oxford United on Saturday.

Edinburgh has hinted he could stay on at the club beyond his current deal, which expires at the end of next season.

"There's huge improvements to be made on and off the pitch here," he said.

"As long as we continue to do that I don't see why personally I won't see out that contract and go beyond that."

Edinburgh, who previously managed Rushden & Diamonds, succeeded Anthony Hudson as Exiles manager in October 2011.

During Edinburgh's time at the club, Newport have relocated to Rodney Parade and secured promotion back to the Football League after a 25-year absence in 2013.

Newport finished 14th in League Two last season and Edinburgh believes both himself and the club are making steady progress.

"I think there's still a lot to develop and first and foremost I have still have to develop as a football manager," Edinburgh added.

"I'm open and flexible to understand that and continue to learn.

"The club have backed me to allow me to do my Pro Licence with the Welsh FA, which I'm doing at the moment."
