Irish Premiership: Crusaders 0-1 Cliftonville

A superb Joe Gormley goal gave Cliftonville a 1-0 win over Crusaders in an entertaining north Belfast derby.

Crues keeper Sean O'Neill saved an early shot from Gormley but the striker showed skill and composure to fire into the bottom corner on 40 minutes.

Josh Robinson wasted two clear chances to level while Paul Heatley saw his dipping volley crash against the bar.

Crusaders lose top spot in the Premiership and slip to third while the champions move up to fourth.

Jordan Owens blasted over from a free-kick before Gormley outmuscled Davy Magowan to go clear, but O'Neill raced out to make the block.

Owens glanced a header wide while Reds forward David McDaid failed to control a cross when well placed.

The goal was worthy of winning any game - Gormley escaped Magowan near the touchline with a delightful touch and from a tight angle curled the ball past O'Neill and into the far corner.

Crusaders made a bright start to the second half and Robinson burst through but saw his shot saved by Conor Devlin.

O'Neill kept out efforts from McDaid and Chris Curran before Robinson failed to connect with a dropping ball from just a yard out.

Heatley's sweetly struck volley hit the underside of the bar and bounced down to safety as the Crues pressed for an equaliser.

Cliftonville remained a threat and Jude Winchester burst through on the left, with his low strike blocked by O'Neill.

Crusaders missed out again when Heatley drilled into space but the winger delayed and the opportunity was gone.
