Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis has consulted a sports psychologist in an effort to inspire talented midfielder Brad Inman back into his team.

The 22-year-old Australian has made just two substitute appearances in the Alex's past six games, after being axed when Davis made changes following the 2-0 defeat at Gillingham on 30 August.

But Davis is ready to give Inman another chance to find his best form.

"I had a meeting last week with Brad and his agent," Davis told BBC Stoke.

"We sat down with him and told him how it was and what he needs to do to get back. He's now clearer on that.

"Myself and his agent, who is very much on our side, are battering away with what it will take to get back in the team.

"He's been much better this week in terms of form and confidence, which are the two things we're trying to improve."

Loss of confidence has proved a key factor for Davis's young side, who remain rooted to the bottom of League One, having picked up just four points from their first 11 games, during which they have shipped 29 goals - the worst goals per game ratio in English football's top five divisions.

The Alex appeared to have turned the corner when, having made changes following the defeat at Gillingham, Davis's side then beat Port Vale in the local derby before earning a 1-1 away draw at Yeovil.

Brad Inman's time at Gresty Road

Adelaide-born Brad Inman netted eight times while on loan from Newcastle United in his first season with the Alex in 2012-13

He finally signed for the Alex, following a long-drawn-out transfer saga in August 2013, only to be made available three months later

But they have since suffered four more straight defeats, conceding 14 goals in the process - the lowpoint being a 6-1 caning at MK Dons.

Their next league game is at home to Coventry City on Saturday and Inman has been handed the chance to prove himself worthy of a recall in this Wednesday night's Cheshire Senior Cup cup clash at home to Witton Albion.
