Continental Cup: Man City's Toni Duggan 'buzzing' ahead of final

Duggan scored a stunning volley in Manchester City's final league game against Chelsea

Toni Duggan says it is a "massive achievement" for Manchester City Women to reach the Continental Cup final.

City finished fifth in their maiden Women's Super League campaign and face Arsenal on Thursday as they look to win their first major cup competition.

Nick Cushing's side won four of their five group matches in the competition to progress straight to the semi-finals, where they beat Chelsea 1-0.

"I'm buzzing for it. I can't wait," the striker, 23, told BBC Radio Manchester.

Duggan, who joined City from Everton at the start of the 2014 season, continued: "It's a bit different to other finals with Everton. I was younger and didn't feel as much a part of the squad.

"Especially because it's our first one, a new club, our first season and the girls are buzzing, because for some of them it's their first final.

"It's going to be a great occasion so hopefully we come out on top."

In the two Women's Super League games between the clubs this season, City won 1-0 at Arsenal but the Gunners gained revenge with a 4-0 success in Manchester.

Arsenal Ladies are the most successful side in England, having won 41 league and cup crowns in 21 years, while City have had only one season in the top flight.

England international Duggan added: "We never set any targets this year, but in my head all I was thinking about was not getting relegated this year.

"Some of the girls had never played at this level before - there were a couple of internationals coming in, but not many.

"To get the final is a massive achievement, especially in our first year, and I'm just looking forward to the occasion now."
