Walsall have signed young midfielder Michael Cain on a month's loan from Premier League side Leicester City.

The 20-year-old, who had a loan spell at Mansfield Town last season, made his Foxes debut in August, in Leicester's League Cup second round defeat by Shrewsbury Town.

Cain is available for his debut in Tuesday's League One trip to Crawley.

But Walsall have failed in their bid to keep former skipper Andy Butler at Bescot for another month.

My name is Michael Cain . . .

Michael Cain joined Leicester City as a 16-year-old, having come through the youth ranks at Luton Town.

The Saddlers had approached Sheffield United in the hope of extending his deal, but they were turned down by their League One rivals.

Walsall will head for Crawley back in the League One relegation zone, having followed up their loss at Oldham with Saturday's home defeat by bottom club Crewe.
