Portadown ease past Ballinamallard at Ferney Park

Portadown struck twice in three minutes to secure a 2-0 Premiership win over Ballinamallard United at Ferney Park.

The goal action came midway through the first half, starting with Chris Casement netting a penalty on 24 minutes after Chris Crilly's handball.

Jason McCartney fluffed a great chance for the Mallards seconds before Gary Twigg fired home at the other end.

McCartney hit the side-netting after the break as the Ports secured a victory which takes them up to third.

The Ports bounced back from last weekend's home defeat by Coleraine with a confidence-boosting display in County Fermanagh.

The visitors should have extended their advantage after the goals from Casement and Twigg, with midfielder Tim Mouncey blazing over from six yards.

Twigg curled an effort wide before the break while Mallards pair Liam Martin and John Currie were denied by keeper David Miskelly.

Shea Conaty went close to adding a third for the Ports with his rasping effort tipped over by Stefan McCusker.
