Aston Villa 1-2 Tottenham: Kane deserves to play more - Pochettino

Harry Kane warrants more Premier League football after scoring a late winner for Spurs in their 2-1 victory over Aston Villa, says Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Kane came on as a substitute at Villa Park to score his seventh goal in seven games with a deflected free-kick.

The 21-year-old had previously scored seven goals in cup competitions this season, without making a league start.

"He maybe deserves to play in the Premier League more," said Pochettino.

Kane has scored six goals in the Europa League for Tottenham this season, including a hat-trick in the 5-1 win over Asteras Tripolis on 23 October.

The Walthamstow-born England under-21 international, who also scored in Tottenham's Capital One Cup win over Brighton in his last appearance, is a product of the north London club's youth system.

Pochettino has previously said Kane's homegrown status has increased the pressure on him to add to the player's six career starts in the top flight, and hinted more are about to follow after his goal secured Tottenham's second win in eight league games.

The Spurs boss, who saw Nacer Chadli cancel out Andreas Weimann's opener at Villa Park, told Sky Sports: "He (Kane) is an important player. We have a lot of very good players. It is true the performance like in the last game and today, he maybe deserves to play in the Premier League more. It was a great goal, and a happy goal for him and the team.

"We are really happy with him because in every competition he has scored, his display was good and the three points are very important for us.

"Our position in the table was not good. Now we are three points off the places for the Champions League.

"In football it can change a lot. We know the situation, we need to build something special and in that process you need time and to be strong."
