Carlisle United have extended the contract of striker Derek Asamoah until 4 January.

The 33-year-old ex-Shrewsbury player joined the Cumbrians on an initial one-month basis following Keith Curle's appointment as manager last month.

Asamoah scored on his debut against Burton and followed that with a goal against Oxford in the second of his three appearances for Curle's side.

"We've seen what he can bring to the squad," Curle told the club website., external

"I know him really well and I signed him in the past when his match fitness was completely there.

"He can cause all kinds of problems with his movement and know-how when he's firing on all cylinders."

In addition to stints with Northampton, Mansfield, Chester, Lincoln and Shrewsbury, Asamoah has played for Nice in France, Bulgarian side Lokomotiv Sofia and Pohang Steelers of South Korea.
