Chesterfield's Gary Roberts was left ruing missed opportunities against old club Crewe, whose point lifted them off the bottom of League One.

The Spireites' Eoin Doyle was inches away from scoring before Jimmy Ryan's 25-yard drive was saved by Ben Garratt.

Crewe improved as Brad Inman headed George Cooper's cross wide and was also foiled by defender Tendayi Darikwa.

But Roberts came closest to breaking the deadlock, seeing one effort cleared off the line and another ruled offside.

Crewe move one point clear of Yeovil and up to 23rd while Chesterfield drop to 14th place.
