Georgia coach Temuri Ketsbaia resigned following his side's 4-0 home defeat by Poland in European Championship qualifying Group D.

The former Newcastle forward, who had been his country's manager since 2009, declared "Georgian football is dead" in the build-up to the match.

Georgia are seven points behind leaders Poland and four off Germany, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland.

"Unfortunately my tenure has ended in a sad manner," he said.

"From now on I will be supporting the team as an ordinary fan."
