England v Germany: Wembley changed my life - Steph Houghton

England captain Steph Houghton says playing at Wembley can be a life-changing experience for her team-mates who are preparing for a first appearance at the national stadium.

Houghton scored the winner when Team GB beat Brazil at Wembley in front of a record 70,584 crowd at the Olympics.

She told BBC Sport: "That size of crowd was just not known. It was a historic moment for women's football.

"It changed my life. This is a chance for women's football to go big again."

England may not match the crowd attracted to Wembley by Team GB, but they will break a record with 55,000 fans expected for the meeting with European champions Germany, which is live on BBC Two and online.

England's previous largest crowd was 29,092 at Etihad Stadium for a Euro 2005 victory over Finland. Their last home game was a 4-0 win over Sweden in front of 4,547 at Hartlepool's Victoria Ground.

Houghton, 26, said: "Team GB was an amazing experience but I can't wait to lead the side out in an England shirt at Wembley against one of the best teams in the world.

"It was unbelievable to play at Wembley in front of 70,000 people against Brazil. The whole occasion, from turning up at the stadium to leaving, was the best night of my career. A lot of the girls who were involved would say the same.

"We have got so many opportunities off the back of it. We are in the media now, I am more well known as a result, I have been able to make a better career for myself. I will always be grateful for having that opportunity to be part of a home Olympic games. It is a memory I will cherish forever."

Mark Sampson's England side won all 10 of their qualifiers for next summer's World Cup in Canada - a feat matched by opponents Germany.
