Milton Keynes Dons 0-1 Chesterfield

Armand Gnanduillet's second-half header ensured Chesterfield beat League One rivals MK Dons at Stadium MK to reach the third round of the FA Cup.

The forward rose above the home side's defence after Sam Clucas curled in a cross from the left to break the deadlock eight minutes after the break.

Chesterfield had earlier seen Eoin Doyle's shot ruled out for offside.

Substitute Giorgio Rasulo's attempt in the 73rd minute was the in-form Dons' only shot on target.

Gnanduillet's goal was the French striker's first since returning from his short-term loan at Tranmere and saw Chesterfield reach the third round for the first time in 17 years.

The Spireites have failed to reach the third round since 1997, where they were eventually knocked out in a semi-final replay by Middlesbrough.

MK Dons manager Karl Robinson told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"It was shambolic. We were by far second best in every single department.

"We were beaten by the better team today, Chesterfield had more energy and quality in the final third. We were lucky to lose 1-0.

"I don't think any player on the pitch can come out with any credit today, I really don't. Their keeper has not made a save at the Stadium MK, which is not like us.

"It's not acceptable, but can you really hang your team out to dry when you've been so good recently? I'm not using it as an excuse. We just weren't good enough today, but I think I can let them off.''

Chesterfield manager Paul Cook told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"MK Dons are a fantastic side, with excellent players who handle the ball well, but we wanted to put them under pressure high up the pitch and make sure if they were going to beat us, they had to earn the right to beat us.

"I thought from the first minute to the last our lads were magnificent.

"I felt we were in the ascendency for the majority of the game and I felt we deserved our victory."
