Plymouth Argyle forward Deane Smalley has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury.

The 26-year-old damaged cruciate ligaments in training and is expected to undergo surgery soon.

He joined the Pilgrims on a two-year deal in the summer, having been released by Oxford United after three seasons at the Kassam Stadium.

Smalley has made 18 appearances for Argyle, and scored two goals, both coming in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy

Meanwhile, defender Peter Hartley has received a retrospective yellow card for conceding the penalty from which Jose Baxter scored Sheffield United's second goal in their 3-0 win over Argyle in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Referee Gary Sutton originally cautioned Curtis Nelson for the foul on Blades forward Jamie Murphy by mistake.
