Lee Carter says AFC Telford United have received around 30 applications for the vacant manager's job

AFC Telford United managing director Lee Carter hopes to appoint a new manager before the club's next game.

Liam Watson was sacked by the Conference club on 13 December after a 1-1 draw with Chester in the FA Trophy.

Carter told BBC Radio Shropshire: "Ideally, I want someone in the post for Saturday or at least watching their new charges on the field on Saturday.

"The new man will have little time to waste in terms of assessing what he has got and trying to turn them around."

Carter also confirmed that former Port Vale, York, Hereford and Southport manager Martin Foyle, another ex-Hereford boss John Trewick, former Shrewsbury coach John McMahon and ex-Chester boss Neil Young have all applied, along with Rapid Bucharest assistant manager Mario Marinica.

"The first CVs rolled in only about 15 minutes after we had announced Liam Watson's departure," Carter added.

"Ultimately, I don't think it's a bad squad to inherit. We've got more talented individuals than we've had for a long time.

"With the right additions, we can give it a go and try and finish one point above the relegation zone. We'll be trying to move very quickly."

Telford, who currently lie bottom of the Conference and are 10 points adrift of safety, host Eastleigh on Saturday.
