Sami Hyypia: Brighton manager backed by Adam Chicksen

Hyypia has won just six of his 25 games in charge of Brighton, with three of those wins coming in the League Cup

Brighton manager Sami Hyypia still has the backing of the club's players, says left-back Adam Chicksen.

The Seagulls are currently 22nd in the Championship table, having won just one of their last 17 league games.

"We obviously believe in the manager and the way he wants to play," 23-year-old Chicksen told BBC Sussex.

"We believe in the philosophy he brings to the club and try and do everything he wants us to do in games - but we need results with that."

A section of Brighton's supporters displayed a banner calling for Hyypia to be sacked during last Friday's 1-0 defeat at home to Millwall, and the team were booed off at the final whistle.

Former Liverpool defender Hyypia, 41, was appointed Albion boss in June on a three-year deal, but the Finn has struggled to get results at a club which finished in the Championship play-off places in the last two seasons.

"All the lads respect him and we always give everything for him. We need to keep positive. If we are all doom and gloom, we are not going to get anywhere," said Chicksen.

"As a group of players collectively we need to pull together."

Chicksen was restored to Brighton's starting line-up against Millwall, having been recalled from a loan spell at Gillingham.

"It was a good surprise," he said. "I went out on loan to try and get back in the Brighton team, which is where I want to be.

"It was a good decision to go to Gillingham and get some game time. Peter Taylor is there [as manager] and they have a good bunch of lads who pass the ball.

"I worked hard to get the chance and hopefully I will keep that spot."
